Kevin Barry was a medical student at University College Dublin (UCD) and became involved in the Irish Republican Army (IRA) during the Irish War of Independence. He is particularly well-known for his involvement in an ambush on British soldiers in Dublin on September 20, 1920. During the ambush, a gunfight occurred, resulting in the deaths of three British soldiers. Barry was captured, tried, and subsequently executed by hanging on November 01, 1920.

His execution at the age of 18 garnered significant attention and sympathy for the Irish nationalist cause. Kevin Barry is remembered as a symbol of youthful sacrifice in the struggle for Irish independence.
